Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley to reunite in a survival drama

The Divergent films kicked off with an auspicious 2014 offering set in a proven dystopian genre, adapting the allegorical Ya novels by Veronica Roth .

However, they never quite ignited a lucrative Hunger Games-like fire as hoped and subsequent sequels in 2015’s Insurgent and 2016’s Allegiant arrived with minimal fanfare, resulting in an the would-be conclusion Ascendant essentially being shelved in favour of a television pilot being developed.

But now, two of the series' stars Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley are set to reunite; they're circling a film called Adrift .

Shailene Woodley will not be appearing in the Divergent TV movie

This won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who’s been following the story, but Shailene Woodley has officially confirmed that she won’t be reprising the role of Tris Prior in the TV-bound fourth and final chapter of the Divergent series, with the actress telling Vanity Fair: “No. I’m not going to be on the television show.”

Problems for The Divergent Series: Ascendant began in March of last year when Lionsgate decided to slash the budget following the poor box office performance of the third instalment Allegiant. Shailene Woodley Says No to Divergent: Ascendant TV Movie

After declining box office results, Lionsgate made the rather shocking decision last summer to release their final Divergent film as a TV movie, which will then lead into a spinoff Divergent TV series. The studio hasn't made any other official announcements about this project since then, with the movie originally slated to hit theaters on July 9, but over the past few months, it's become clear that star Shailene Woodley was not happy with this drastic switch. Shailene Woodley Isn’t Going to Be in That ‘Ascendant’ TV Movie

The Divergent movies were never as big (or as good) as the Hunger Games series, but those first two films held onto those dystopian young adult coattails and became moderate successes at the box office, certainly justifying the existence of the third movie, Allegiant. Unfortunately, the third adaptation of Veronica Roth ’s popular book series was a box office […]

Shailene Woodley’s Passing On The Divergent TV Series

It’s kind of a shame what happened with Lionsgate’s Divergent series. Based on Veronica Roth ’s Ya novels, hopes were initially high for the films, given how successful the books were, and with a studio who’d already proven they knew how to navigate the tricky waters of the genre a few years prior with The Hunger Games series, all signs pointed to another mega hit that would dominate the box office for the next little while.

Divergent released in 2014 and though far from perfect, it was a wholly enjoyable adaptation that laid the groundwork for an exciting new franchise. Unfortunately, though, it was all downhill from there. The next film, Insurgent. was mediocre at best and the decision to split the last book, Allegiant. into two separate outings turned a lot of people off. As expected, the first part bombed both critically and commercially, while the second part, »

Stx Circling Shailene Woodley-Led Survival Drama Adrift; Production Set For June Start

As The Divergent Series draws to a truncated conclusion, one which will reportedly unfold on the small screen as opposed to its cinematic predecessors, lead star Shailene Woodley is beginning to cast the net in search of new roles. Last we reported on Lionsgate’s proposed TV finale, Woodley expressed reservations about the reconfigured fourth installment, before conceding that the studio is still in the process of finalizing negotiations with its leading cast.

Still nothing to report on that front just yet, but we do have some exciting news beyond the confines of Veronica Roth ’s Ya series. According to Deadline, the Shailene Woodley -led survival pic Adrift is on the verge of landing a distribution deal with Stx Entertainment. Pitched as “Gravity on the high seas,” Woodley first came attached to the project late last year alongside director Baltasar Kormákur .
